The fourth annual Flyover Film Festival will open at The Speed Art Museum on June 7 and run through June 10. Films are screened at various Louisville locations to illustrate the variety of venues our city has to offer the filmgoer, including the new Dreamland Film Center. Films are selected to support the Louisville Film Society’s mission of showcasing the local film culture while also providing an opportunity for Louisville to participate in the global conversation about film.
Eastern Kentucky director Martha Stephens will return to Flyover with her newest film, “Pilgrim Song.” Stephens made her Flyover debut last year with “Passenger Pigeons.” This year’s “Pilgrim Song” was chosen as one of only eight narrative features to headline the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas and has been named in the top 10 of South By Southwest by Film Comment magazine.
This Louisville-centric production features our own Timothy Morton as lead actor and local musicians Andrew Iafrate and Jonathan Glen Wood penning the original music. Set among the verdant hills of Appalachia, “Pilgrim Song” is a southern odyssey that leads a recently pink-slipped teacher away from isolation through a labyrinth of strange characters who help him discover what he’s been missing. Stephens chose the bustling city of Louisville as the backdrop for the film, from which Morton’s character finds his way into the true heart of Appalachia.
